  • The decision comes close on the heels of the UP government's decision to scrap 15 public holidays
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Friday announced that the national capital will not observe holidays on the birth or death anniversary of eminent personalities.

The decision comes close on the heels of a similar order by the Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government, which cancelled 15 public holidays marking the birth or death anniversary of eminent personalities.

Delhi's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia made the announcement in a series on posts on micro-blogging site Twitter.

"The Delhi government too will cancel all holidays marking the birth and death anniversaries of eminent personalities. I've issued instruction to the chief secretary in this regard," Sisodia tweeted.

Commending the UP government's initiative in scrapping holidays, Sisodia said a government should learn from the examples set by others.

The UP Cabinet had on April 25 decided to cancel 15 public holidays in educational institutions.

"Instead, students in schools and colleges would now be taught about the great personalities on these days," it had said.
